Motive introduces Bluetooth Beacon for small asset tracking
Motive has launched Motive Beacon, a compact Bluetooth tracking device designed to help fleets and physical operations teams monitor smaller equipment and containers that are often not tracked with traditional GPS systems due to their size or value.
The device operates through the company’s Motive Mesh Network, which uses connected vehicle gateways and devices running the Motive Fleet App and Driver App to detect Beacon-tagged assets via Bluetooth and report their last-seen location.

Motive said the product is intended for industries such as construction, logistics, utilities and landscaping, roadway maintenance, and field services and is built for the fast-paced, complex world of physical operations.
The waterproof device features flexible mounting options and a four-year replaceable battery.
“Missing equipment costs companies billions of dollars annually,” said Robert Higdon, director of product at Motive, in a news release. “With Motive Beacon, we’re helping give customers the visibility they need to locate equipment and assets within the Motive platform, the same platform they’re already using to manage the most critical pieces of their operations including vehicles, drivers, fleet-related spend, and heavy equipment. Whether it’s tracking billions of dollars worth of equipment, reallocating underutilized assets, or recovering left-behind equipment, Beacon helps teams operate more efficiently without adding complexity.”
According to the company, Beacon can provide high-frequency in-transit tracking alerts as frequently as every minute when traveling with a Motive Vehicle Gateway. Beacon also integrates into the Motive Fleet Dashboard alongside vehicles and drivers. Beacon-tagged tools and equipment appear alongside vehicles and drivers within the Motive platform designed to provide a complete 360-degree view of mixed fleet operations. Built-in historical reporting can help track equipment movement over time, identify dormant assets, optimize utilization, and support smarter long-term planning.
