Motive launches AI-powered Positive Driving to recognize good driving behaviors

Motive has rolled out a new AI model designed to automatically detect and highlight safe driver behavior, aiming to help fleets reduce collisions and driver turnover while improving engagement.

Now available globally, the Positive Driving feature uses AI-powered dash cams to identify and surface in real time behaviors such as a driver reacting quickly to avoid a collision or maintaining a safe following distance after being cut off. The tool is integrated into the Motive Dashboard and offers managers a way to recognize drivers for defensive actions, shifting some of the focus from negative event reviews to positive reinforcement.

Today, Positive Driving identifies two types of safe behavior. One is alert driving, which detects when a driver responds quickly to unexpected obstacles like swerving vehicles, pedestrians, road debris, or animals. The other is safe distancing, which flags moments when a driver slows down quickly and establishes a safe following distance after being cut off.

All events are first detected by Motive’s AI and then reviewed for accuracy by the company’s safety team within seconds, according to a news release. The feature builds on Motive’s broader suite of AI tools for identifying unsafe driving behavior, offering fleets a more complete view of driver performance.

“With Positive Driving, we’re giving companies an easy way to recognize excellence on the road in order to build trust and increase employee engagement,” said Hemant Banavar, chief product officer at Motive, in the release. “By automatically surfacing the moments that matter, Positive Driving turns everyday decisions into powerful coaching opportunities that lead to safer fleets and stronger teams.”

  • Unfortunatly it is very sensitive and will flag a close following event even though a driver is on the brakes and trying to create space , but traffic has continued to slow. It also does not show vehicle speed in the footage so there is no context. Im also not sure why the onus is on me to make room, instead of the other driver to not cut me off .
