Motive’s First Responder is now available in Canada
Motive‘s First Responder emergency alert feature is now available for customers operating in Canada and Mexico, offering fleets faster emergency response following a severe collision. The system, developed with RapidSOS, was introduced in the U.S. last year.
The company says the tool would be especially useful when addressing heightened risks associated with crashes in remote locations. According to Transport Canada’s National Collision Database, 74% of commercial vehicle fatal collisions occur on rural roads, and roughly 25–35% of fatal crashes involving heavy trucks take place in those areas.
When a severe, life-threatening collision occurs, First Responder aims to accelerate the notification process and reduce delays in reaching emergency services. Motive says survival rates increase by 13% for every minute that first responders arrive sooner. Coverage through RapidSOS reaches 97.5% of the Canadian population, according to the company.

The feature provides a priority line to N911 services and programmatically shares critical data when it’s needed most. Upon the collision detection, Motive’s safety team reviews the footage, confirming the collision within 30 seconds, alerting fleets’ safety managers with telematics and video data.
In emergency situations, Motive and RapidSOS send first responders key information, including precise location coordinates, driver name, time of impact, vehicle make and model, and license plate details. The system also supports live streaming and updates through the Motive Dashboard and Fleet App to give fleets visibility into the response process.
