New Western Star 49X modification for car haulers

by Today's Trucking

Fontaine Modification is now offering a new auto hauler option for the Western Star 49X.

The modification produces a low-profile car carrier without compromising the toughness Western Star customers expect, the company says. Fontaine Modification lowers the roof of the truck’s 60-inch sleeper to 100.75 inches.

“Western Star offered low cabs that were a great choice for auto hauler applications in the past, but not as part of the brand’s new X-Series,” Harrison Letchworth, Fontaine Modification vocational sales manager, said in a news release. “That’s where we come in. Our team engineered a solution that gives customers the opportunity to take advantage of all the great new features of the Western Star 49X for car carrier applications.”

The cab height has been reduced by more than 30 inches and Fontaine designed new cab mounts, exhaust, side cowls and front axle bump stock, as well as a replacement roof cap.

The final cab height depends on vehicle spec’s including wheel, tire or frame options. The work is done at Fontaine Modification’s Charlotte, N.C. mod center.
