Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) launched a new version of its SmartDriver in the City training program. Available as of June 8, the training course offers updated fuel efficiency and safety training for professional drivers operating in urban environments.

The free online program is aimed at drivers and managers of municipal and urban fleets and is the latest addition to NRCan’s SmartDriver training series. The updated course joins NRCan’s existing SmartDriver training suite, which includes programs for highway trucking, work trucks, forestry operations and school buses.

The course on city driving includes five modules covering fuel efficiency fundamentals, factors impacting urban fuel economy, vehicle maintenance best practices, expanded fuel-efficient driving techniques, and technologies that can help optimize fleet performance.

SmartDriver courses are designed to help professional truck drivers reduce fuel consumption, lower operating costs and vehicle emissions, as well as improve on-road safety.
