O/Os losing trucks over disease

Dear Editor,

The Alberta papers have gone as far as saying that some cattle haulers are losing their trucks. If an owner/operator is losing his truck this early that tells me that he’s been underpaid all along as a lot of them are.

Surely a businessman would have some cash set aside for emergencies and not lose his truck the first week that it’s parked.

We all know that carriers prefer using owner/ops as they cost them less than having company drivers on their trucks.

Owner/operators should give their heads a shake and insist on getting as much money for a wage (after operating costs) as company drivers do.

Any owner/operator who has already lost his truck since the mad cow disease struck is doing himself a favor by getting a job elsewhere and driving for wages.
