One oil for them all

Shell is offering a new fuel-efficient oil formula that can be used in gasoline or diesel engines.

The fully synthetic Rotella T6 Multi Vehicle 5W30 meets the recently released FA-4 oil category for diesel engines as well as the American Petroleum Institute’s SN specification for gasoline models.

That offers a way to boost fuel economy in pickup trucks and vans as well as Class 6-8 trucks.

Also in the formula is what’s called Triple Protection Plus technology, which combines specific additives and synthetic base oil. The end result, says Shell, protects against wear, deposits, and oil breakdown as well as improving fuel economy.

The oil demonstrated strong oxidation resistance in the new Volvo T-13 oxidation test, showing that it controls acid buildup and keeps the oil from thickening, exceeding the CK-4 limits.

As a full synthetic, cold cranking properties and low-temperature pumpability also improve at respective temperatures of -30 and -35 Celsius.
