SURREY, B.C. — Pacbrake has introduced a new patented premium performance exhaust brake designed to maximize braking power on most classes of diesel trucks.

The PRXB is a constant backpressure exhaust brake ideal for in-city driving or for steep, long downhill routes. A traditional exhaust brake can easily be upgraded to a PRXB, the company says, while sustaining a precise fit.

The PRXB features 33 per cent greater retarding horsepower than a standard exhaust brake at 1,500 RPM. The produce offers 75 per cent of the power of an engine brake at a fraction of the price, Pacbrake says.

The constant backpressure adjusts as engine speeds change, maintaining optimum retarding performance throughout the entire RPM range. Pacbrake also says the added performance of the PRXB at mid-range will help reduce the number of brake relines by more than five times over the life of the vehicle.

This could result in a maintenance savings of up to $7,500. Also, the PRXB is 25 per cent of the weight and 50 per cent of the price of an engine brake. It will soon be available in a five-inch and 3.5-inch model.
