ParkPro says nearly 200 truck parking spaces will open this summer at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Fla., home of the Florida Panthers NHL team.

Drivers will be able to reserve hourly parking at the venue on non-event days through the ParkPro mobile platform, Tra Williams, the company’s CEO and owner, announced during the Truckload Carriers Association convention in Orlando, Fla. The reservation platform will be on Platform Science, Apple iOS, and Android devices.

The project will make Amerant Bank Arena the first sports venue in the U.S. to offer dedicated truck parking as part of an effort to address the truck parking shortage.

Williams said the concept behind ParkPro is to connect large public, event and retail spaces with underused parking capacity to carriers and fleets that need safe, predictable parking for their drivers.

“This is not a dark gravel lot in a shady part of town with room for two trucks. This is high‑quality, well‑lit institutional space that was built for volume,” Williams said during the conference.

ParkPro platform allows fleets and drivers to reserve parking spaces at large venues, helping reduce time spent searching for parking. ParkPro estimates its services can allow drivers to recover up to 12% of productivity currently lost while looking for parking. ParkPro’s network already includes more than 1,100 potential host locations — including stadiums, arenas, malls, and conference centres — though not all have been activated yet.

“Williams also contrasted the approach with publicly funded truck parking projects, noting that ParkPro relies on existing infrastructure rather than building new facilities. By activating parking areas that already exist at large venues, he said additional truck parking capacity can be created quickly without new construction or public funding.

“The Federal Department of Transportation gave the state of Florida a grant to build 900 spaces on I-4. $350 million dollars in taxpayer funding went to create 900 spaces. Zero taxpayer dollars went to create 200 [spaces] at Amerant Arena, and it won’t take 10 years to build,” Williams said, explaining the concept.

He added that because many of the venues are located near major commercial areas, drivers parking at these locations typically have access to nearby restaurants, hotels, and other services. For example, he noted that the Sawgrass Mills shopping area, located across the street from the Amerant Bank Arena, includes dozens of restaurants and multiple hotels within walking distance.

However, ParkPro locations are not intended to replicate full-service truck stops. Williams acknowledged that amenities such as showers are not provided at the venues themselves, but said the goal is to provide safe, well-lit parking in areas where drivers already have access to surrounding infrastructure.
