The nat-gas powerplant will be offered in the Models 579, 567 and 520, with orders slated for production in the third quarter. The engine is optimized for weight, space and durability and features a larger 15-liter displacement than current offerings, the company announced.

“The new X15N natural gas engine provides another environmentally friendly solution for Peterbilt customers committed to sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint,” said Jake Montero, Peterbilt assistant general manager, sales and marketing.

The engine can produce up to 500 hp and 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque. It is compliant with current and EPA27 emissions standards.
