Peterbilt has announced new features available on its Paccar TX-18 Pro transmission, including an off-road calibration and rock-free mode.

The transmission is available on the Peterbilt Models 579, 567, 589, 389, 367 and 365. It can operate in vocational applications including heavy haul, dump, wrecker, and crane. Mated to the Paccar MX engine, it’s rated up to 140,000 lb.

The new off-road calibration can be selected using the stalk-mounted shifter. The system learns road terrain and surface conditions and responds automatically to minimize unnecessary shifting and maximizing time in gear, the company says.

Rock-free mode now comes standard on the TX-18 Pro and can be engaged with the flip of a switch. The transmission can then be shifted between Drive and Reverse modes to rock free.

“The integration of these new features on the Paccar TX-18 PRO transmission enhances Peterbilt’s ability to provide the best-performing trucks in the industry and deliver productivity, efficiency and uptime to our customers,” said Jake Montero, Peterbilt assistant general manager, sales and marketing.
