by Today's Trucking

A new synthetic transmission fluid from Petro-Canada Lubricants has been selected by Allison as its factory fill.

DuraDrive HD Synthetic 668 automatic transmission fluid was developed to meet Allison’s TES 668 specification. It is backwards-compatible for all Allison transmissions requiring TES 295 fluids, as well as other fully automatic transmissions.

During a webinar to introduce the new fluid, Alex Buczek, global category manager, HD transportation, noted DuraDrive HD Synthetic 668 is the only TES 668 fluid Allison has fully tested and validated.

Sonia Hevia, product specialist, transmissions, said the fluids traits include: 14 times better oxidation control than required; excellent oil thickening control; optimal wear protection improvement; and twice the anti-shudder durability that’s required. The fluid was tested in extreme hot and cold weather, she added.

Benefits of the new oil, according to Petro-Canada, include: extended drain intervals; smoother, faster acceleration; and better protection of internal components.

DuraDrive HD Synthetic 668 will be available Jan. 1, 2021.
