POLYMAX TOUTS NEW REPAIR S-CAMS

MONTREAL, Que. — Polymax 2000 Industries says it has a new method of repairing air brake S-cams and bushings that allows them to outlast the regular service life of trailers or trucks.

The 20-minute-per-axle operation, performed at the same time as a conventional brake job, involves an easy 3-step process.

First, its bushings are installed with custom-engineered pullers that ensure a perfect fit every time, according to the company. The S-cams are then measured to select the appropriate cutter, which is used to ream each set of bushings according to shaft size.

Once this line-bore step is completed, it is necessary to clean the assembly of all debris, and then reassemble the brake components. Polymax says this method offers several advantages, including reduced maintenance cost for brake system repairs, increased braking capacity and removal of slack between cam and bushing.

“3 years have passed since the first road tests on this product,” says Frank Palange, marketing director of Polymax. “Since then the test prototypes have been through the worst road and climatic conditions, and the system works and surpasses all our expectations.”

Cabano Kingsway, Transport Thibodeau, Laidlaw Carriers and BFI Environment have all provided test trucks for the product and the company says the results obtained to this day indicate no wear in the cam and bushing assemblies.
