CAP-SAINT-IGNACE, Que. — Prolam has introduced a new hot-melt polyurethane reactive (PuR) coating the company is now using on the underside of its trailer floors to protect them against water spray and road debris.
The company says the new trailer floor undercoating is superior to water-based paint coatings, especially in cold weather. Water-based paints tend to break down when subjected to intense water spray and road debris particularly around the trailer wheels, the company says.
When water-based paints break down, the wood is subjected to moisture which causes warping, swelling and the deterioration of glue bonds.
Benoit Risi, general manager of Prolam, says PuR coating provides far better protection for wood floors, increasing durability and reducing floor maintenance costs. He also pointed out PuR exceeds industry standards for elongation, abrasion, adhesion and water absorption.
