MONTREAL, Que. — Effective immediately, Quebec has introduced a permit regime which will allow a 53-foot trailer to be pulled by a tractor with a wheel base as much as 282 inches but there are restrictions on the wheel base of the trailer.

The national MOU on vehicle weights and dimensions restricts the wheelbase on tractors to 244 inches.

Ontario has adopted this restriction for those tractors pulling 53-foot trailers but not for trailers that are 48 feet or less and still restricts the wheelbase of the tractor to 244 inches.

The cost of an annual permit is $150. Full details can be viewed at www.mtg.gouv.ca
