RAM COMMERCIAL VAN

Ram ProMaster based on Fiat Ducato

Ram Truck has announced that it will develop a new large van for the North American market. Based on the Fiat Ducato (pictured here), the 2014 Ram ProMaster will join the smaller Ram Cargo Van as an additional offering to compete with other full-size commercial vans. Especially the Sprinter, it would seem.

“Our relationship with Fiat… has given us access to great products and technology that will resonate with our U.S. and Canadian Ram Truck customers,” says Fred Diaz, president and CEO, Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico, Chrysler Group LLC

While based on the Ducato, the Ram ProMaster will be significantly redesigned, offering features and powertrains preferred by North American commercial customers. In other markets the Fiat sports small four-cylinder engines, both gas and diesel, but it will likely get a V6 for North America.

The Fiat Ducato is now in its third generation with more than four million sold worldwide.
