PIKES PEAK, Col. — Freightliner driver Mike Ryan set a new record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

It was the fifth new record set by Ryan and he did it in a Mercedes-Benz-powered Freightliner Century Class S/T Super Truck. It was the driver’s eighth win in nine years in the big rig class.

Ryan’s time was 12:46.81. When he first entered the event in 1997, the record was 15:48.

“My record-breaking times year after year demonstrate the superior performance of our sponsor’s products and their continued commitment to offering the most advanced truck technologies in the industry,” Ryan said.

Prior to the race Ryan said, “With the design enhancements to our Freightliner Century Class S/T race truck, terrific course conditions and good weather, I know this is our year to win big. Last year’s truck was capable of breaking records but the weather on the mountain wouldn’t allow it.”
