Stemco, an Enpro company, has launched ReSpec, a line of patented thread repair tools designed to help fleets and technicians restore damaged threads instead of replacing otherwise serviceable components.

Unlike traditional repair methods that remove material, ReSpec uses a rolling process to reshape existing threads without weakening them, according to the company. The lineup supports metric, imperial, coarse, fine, left-hand, and right-hand threads ranging from 3 mm to 120 mm.

Available configurations include the RST-60X for external thread repair from 10 mm to 60 mm, the RST-120X for external threads from 50 mm to 120 mm, the RSSR 22-1.5X for 22 mm applications, and the RST-70I for repairing internal threads from approximately 51 mm to 70 mm. Stemco said the RST-70I is designed for steering knuckle bores, an application that has historically lacked effective repair options.

Independent testing by Germany’s Material Testing Institute Hanover (MPA) found ReSpec-repaired threads withstood the same static and dynamic loads as new threads. Stemco said the rolling process also hardens the thread surface, improving resistance to future wear while maintaining the integrity of the original component.
