TERRASTAR 4X4 WORK TRUCK

At the recent Work Truck Show, Navistar unveiled the International TerraStar 4×4 commercial truck. Launched in 4×2 form last year, the 4×4 variant will suit construction, utility, landscape, and other off-highway applications.

Powering the new truck is International’s 300-hp, 6.4-liter MaxxForce 7 V-8 engine, delivering 660 lb ft of torque. Featuring a compacted-graphite-iron (CGI) block offering strength without added weight, it uses ‘Advanced EGR’ emissions technology, meaning no added aftertreatment equipment and no diesel exhaust fluid.

The MaxxForce 7 is matched with a commercial-duty Allison Optimized 1000 Series transmission with a 5-year unlimited-mileage warranty. The close-ratio, fully automatic transmission features load-based shift scheduling (LBSS) which automatically selects between ‘economy’ and ‘performance’ shift schedules based on the vehicle’s actual payload and the grade it’s operating on. As well, prognostics eliminate unnecessary oil and filter changes and make routine maintenance easier.

The TerraStar features 107-in. BBC (bumper to back-of-cab) length for high maneuverability in tight work environments.

Its commercial-duty cab sports a lot of interior space, allowing room for three adults to fit comfortably in the front seat, and there are extended cab and crew cab configurations available.

The truck features the International Diamond Logic electrical system, an advanced multiplexing architecture. It’s said to maximize ease of body integration and help deliver customizable features such as automated pre-trip inspections, programmable switches, and more depending on the application.
