The $100-million team

TORONTO —  A pair of insurance industry competitors have joined forces to create what they call Canada’s first “mega trucking-insurance brokerage.”

The Safety Group, with offices in Ontario and Alberta, has united with Toronto-based Jones DesLauriers Insurance Management Inc., (JDIMI) and the resultant brokerage boasts more than $100 million in revenues.

According to a statement released by the organization, the new brokerage is called the Safety Insurance Group and it will be a specialty division under the JDIMI group of companies.

“With our combined volume of business, our brokerage has moved up to the number-one spot in the transportation insurance sector,” says Glenn Murray, partner at JDIMI and Safety.

“We have created a mega trucking insurance brokerage, with 20 dedicated advisors that specialize in providing innovative insurance solutions for companies hauling various commodities.”

The new shop is now open for business at any of the firm’s 11 offices, with more than 200 employees.

Along with Murray, Steve Palmer, President and CEO at Safety, will continue to lead the company. “We are pleased to have joined an established firm that shares our passion for the trucking industry, the main focus of our business” says Palmer.

“Whether insuring one truck or a fleet of 2,500, we will continue to leverage a history of strong insurer relationships, specialty products and value added services that our clients will find mutually beneficial.”

Jones DesLauriers Insurance Management Inc. (JDIMI) was one of the largest privately held insurance brokerages in Canada.

The Safety Group (Safety) was a specialty brokerage for trucking insurance, with a reputation for  delivering  tailored solutions for a wide range of fleet insurance requirements.
