TMC Report: Cummins extends Uptime Guarantee to 07 engines

TAMPA, Fla. — Cummins says it is confident in its 2007 engine technology, so much so that its offering its Uptime Guarantee on new heavy-duty ISX and ISM engines.

Both the engines themselves and the aftertreatment system are covered by the warranty, Cummins officials announced at the Technology and Maintenance Council meetings in Tampa this week. Under the guarantee, if a customers ISX or ISM engine of aftertreatment system fails and cant be fixed within 24 hours, Cummins will pay for the repairs and provide up to three days of reimbursement for a rental vehicle.

“Customers need to know that they can buy 2007 vehicles with absolute confidence that they are going to perform reliably. With over 40 billion miles of real-world testing and experience, Cummins can provide that kind of assurance,” said Jeff Jones, Cummins vice-president of sales and market communications. “The fact that we control every aspect of the design and manufacture of this totally integrated system ensures superior fuel economy and strong performance, along with the exceptional reliability that is a hallmark of Cummins engines.”

The Uptime Guarantee was first launched in 2002 with the release of the EPA 02 engines with EGR. The guarantee will apply to all ISX and ISM engines through to Dec. 31, 2007 with coverage good through the end of the year, the company announced.
