TAMPA, Fla. — Hendrickson unveiled its new Quaantum FX trailer suspension at the Technology and Maintenance Council meetings in Tampa yesterday, featuring HNP and HUS long-life wheel ends.
The new suspension system is designed to give customers peace of mind and is backed by hubcap-to-hubcap limited warranties of five (for the Quaantum FX5) and seven (for the Quaantum FX7) years. Suspension components include extended-service brakes and wheel ends, air springs and shock absorbers, all designed to work together as part of a cohesive, long-life unit, the company announced.
Our exclusive HNP and HUS hub and wheel-end systems provide the advantage of outstanding versatility to accommodate todays growing complexity of tire technology, Jeff Shahan, program manager, Hendrickson Trailer Suspension Systems, announced. With the proprietary P90 spindle, durable hubs, precision bearings, high quality seals and extended-service brakes, shocks and air springs, Hendricksons integrated systems create a long-life solution to meet the needs of todays fleets and owner/operators.
Shahan said S-cam brakes will shed their reputation of having a short service life and being difficult to maintain, thanks to a combination of advanced wheel-end components found on all Quaantum FX suspension systems.
The HNP wheel-end system is the first hub/spindle design to hit the trucking industry in several years, Shahan pointed out. And the companys HNP hub provides a lightweight and cost-effective configuration. The HNPs light weight can be attributed to ADI Dura-Light material used in its construction.
HNP also incorporates twin N inner bearings, an R seal, Hendricksons Precision320 nut system as well as a self-centering hubcap, creating a completely rebuildable wheel-end. Meanwhile the HUS wheel-end features a unitized system that can be trusted to rack up plenty of mileage with a low cost of operation, Shahan added. He said the HUS wheel-end reduces maintenance and helps increase uptime by eliminating seal and bearing replacement every 250,000 or 500,00 miles.
The Hendrickson Quaantum FX suspension systems with HNP or HUS wheel-ends can be factory-installed in an environment that prevents contaminants from interfering with the assembly process, increasing bearing life and reducing maintenance, said Shahan. Fleets can use both duals and wide-based single tires, thanks to the P90 spindle. The 90 mm parallel spindle also promotes even bearing lubrication.
Also featured on the Quaantum FX suspension are self-centering hubcaps with a tapped hole allowing easy attachment of an alignment tool or hub odometer without jeopardizing the integrity of the hubcap seal.
The Quaantum FX5 with HNP comes standard with a five-year limited warranty including shocks and air springs. The FX7 with HUS provides an additional two years of coverage. Both suspension systems will be available this summer.
