LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Super 60 STS amber six-inch oval light emitting diode (LED) side turn signal (STS) and marker lamp is the first of its kind to exceed all standards for both types of lights.

“It’s the first time we’ve put an LED on the side of a truck or trailer in this function,” explains Tim Walker, Truck-Lite’s vice-president of Worldwide Sales. “By using different types of diodes we’ve made it cost effective.”

Previously, LED side turn lamps could qualify only as legal side markers, but could not qualify as side turn signals under SAE J2039. But thanks to Truck-Lite’s specially customized Advanced Optics Design software, this is on its way to becoming a thing of the past.

In addition, the company recently released the world’s first single-diode stop/turn/tail lamp LED. The Super 66 red six-inch oval LED stop/turn/tail lamp is the first of its kind to use only one diode. The company says, it is only the first of a new series of single-diode safety lamps now in various stages of development.

The Super 66 is less directional than multiple-diode LED lamp designs. Truck-Lite used its specially customized Advanced Optics Design software to provide a more homogeneous appearing light pattern, similar to an incandescent lamp.

“Since it looks more like a traditional incandescent lamp, the Super 66 will be less prone to theft,” says Walker.

The Super 60 STS and the Super 66 still provide all the advantages offered by other Truck-Lite LEDs, including lamp life rated at 100,000 hours, low amperage draw for fewer wiring and alternator problems, instantaneous glow time (0.2 seconds faster than incandescent lamps) and superior resistance to shock and vibration.

All electronics, including the diodes, are sealed in epoxy to withstand the severest road shock and vibration and prevent moisture from reaching the circuits. The lamp uses Truck-Lite’s proprietary “Fit and Forget” integral plug design that excludes moisture and corrosive chemicals when mated with Truck-Lite sealed harnesses.

The new Super 60 STS LEDs will be available by June of this year, while the Super 66 is available now. Both come with grommet mounts or reinforced flange mounts for greater security against theft. Standard trim and protection rings for Model 60 lamps will fit in either case.

The Super 60 STS caries Truck-Lite’s Limited Lifetime Warranty. When used in conjunction with Truck-Lite’s Series 88 sealed wire harness system and 100 per cent Truck-Lite LED lamps, it is part of Truck-Lite’s Limited Lifetime Warranty covering the entire trailer lighting system.
