Truck-Lite previews trailer back-up safety system
Truck-Lite is developing an integrated trailer back-up safety system combining reverse lighting and an audible alarm, with availability targeted for 2027 builds.
The system is designed as a cost-effective solution to improve safety and efficiency during reversing maneuvers, addressing a longstanding gap as many trailers lack dedicated back-up lighting and warning systems. It was first displayed at the spring meetings of the Technology & Maintenance Council in Nashville.

“The lack of visibility behind a trailer at loading docks, yards, and parking areas creates a challenge for drivers, with a real risk of property, equipment damage, and personal injuries,” said Matt Mrakovich, vice president of engineering.
The system enhances visibility for drivers while also alerting nearby workers and motorists when a trailer is backing up, helping reduce the risk of collisions and injuries in low-light or congested environments.
Truck-Lite said the system can also improve operational efficiency by enabling faster, more accurate backing while reducing the likelihood of damage-related downtime and repair costs.
The company emphasized the system’s simplified design, aimed at making it easier for OEMs to install and more affordable for fleets compared to existing alternatives.
