Utility reopens mfct plant hit by tornado

GLADE SPRING, Va. — A Utility Trailer manufacturing plant in Virginia that was hit and sustained damage by a tornado last month is back up and running.

The company announced the reopening of the facility late last week.

To help increase production, some of the Glade Spring backlog has been transferred to a second dry van plant in Paragould, Ark. "Between the two plants we hope to be caught up on our delivery commitments within 90 days," said Harold Bennett, president of Utility Trailer Manufacturing.

While the building and roof sustained some damage, Utility says it was fortunate that its machinery and tools were undamaged by the storm.

"Our employees and contractors have done a masterful job of clean-up, debris removal, and clearing damaged inventory and trailers. We plan to build up our production and reinstate most employees at an aggressive rate said Bennett.

The facility was struck by a large tornado that was part of a series of storms that devastated the southeast U.S. last month.
Luckily, no employees were on the site at the time.
