CALGARY, Alta. — Volvo Trucks Canada launched its new line of vocational heavy-duty (VHD) trucks at a party in Calgary Wednesday.

A ride-and-drive allowed fleet owners and other customers to test the newvehicles first-hand, and those who took advantage of the opportunity weren’tdisappointed.

Ron Stassi, Alberta fleet supervisor for Coca-Cola Bottling Ltd., was one person who admired the new vehicle.

“I thought it was very nice and comfortable to drive,” says Stassi. “It’s very quiet, you can see really well through it, the mirrors are nice and solid and it was very nice and comfortable to drive. I like it.”

As part of the launch festivities, City of Calgary employee Art De La Mare won $1,000. De La Mare, a training officer with the city’s Fleet Supply Performance and Training department, hit the jackpot when his key turned over a new Volvo VHD truck.

“I can’t believe it, I never win anything,” said an elated De La Mare, after hearing Volvo engine roar to life.

Ron Froese, general manager of Volvo Trucks Calgary, was pleased with the response to the launch.

“The attendance was great and we obviously had a good appeal here,” says Froese.

“I think that there’s a great opportunity to sell a few of these trucks and this was our golden opportunity to present it to the specific customers in this marketplace. I think it worked out very well.”

About 240 people attended the event.
