GREENSBORO, N.C. — Volvo and Mack have announced their standard tire selections, with Bridgestone getting the nod on both makes.

The Bridgestone R287 will be the standard steer tire fore the Volvo VN and VT series of highway tractors. The radial tire is designed for steering positions in longhaul and regional haul applications, according to Bridgestone Firestone North America. Its tread design, tough tread compound and patented Bridgestone Side Groove and Equalizer Rib combat irregular wear while providing excellent traction and high mileage, the company says.

Meanwhile, Volvo has chosen the Bridgestone M860 as its standard steer tire for the VHD vocational truck. The M860 features sidewall protector ribs and excellent chip and cut resistance, Volvo officials have announced.

Mack Trucks has selected the Bridgestone R250F as the standard tire for its Granite and TerraPro cabover models. The R250F is designed for precise handling and excellent traction for refuse and construction service, Bridgestone Firestone officials say. The tire features five ribs, a tough tread compound and solid shoulder ribs to resist damage from curbing.

Macks Pinnacle highway tractor will rely on the Bridgestone R280 as its standard tire. Both Mack and Volvo customers can also choose from a variety of Continental, Michelin and Goodyear tires. Mack customers can also spec Yokohama tires.
