GREENSBORO, N.C. — Volvo has announced the availability of a natural gas-powered Volvo VNM day cab.

The company says the NG-powered truck is ideal for port drayage, P&D, grocery and beverage haulers as well as private fleets concerned about their CO2 emissions.

“Localized or closed-loop operations present a great opportunity for companies to utilize our nation’s abundant domestic supply of natural gas,” said Ron Huibers, senior vice-president, sales and marketing. “Volvo is already delivering the cleanest trucks in the world in terms of regulated emissions, and now we’re offering an alternative fuel option to move our nation’s goods while emitting less CO2.”

The truck is powered by a 9-litre, 320 hp, Cummins Westport ISL G engine with 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque, which can be operated on liquefied or compressed natural gas. Volvo has already delivered 10 NG-powered VNM day cabs to Talon Logistics, the transportation arm of food and fuel retailer Giant Eagle.
