Want to save 2,500 lbs? Use ‘Miracle Metal’. Everywhere

LOUISVILLE, KY – The aluminum wheel company Alcoa Wheels told reporters at the Mid America Truck Show (MATS) that if a trucker wanted, he could save 2,500 lbs on a single truck by switching to existing aluminum components.

Alcoa not only produces aluminum wheels, Alcoa manufactures aluminum sheeting that can be installed in doors, radiators, frame rails, huck bolts and 5th wheels.

According to Alcoa’s VP & General Manager of Transportation Products Victor Marquez, such savings would probably be more attractive to carriers who weigh out before they cube out, and the cost-advantage or savings by switching from steel to aluminum would depend on the applications, but, Marquez said, “this miracle metal can help reshape the industry.”

Marquez made the comments Thursday at MATS after launching the company’s newest aluminum wheel innovation: the Dura-Bright EVO a premium aluminum wheel that, he says, is 10 times more resistant to corrosion caused by road salts, weather elements and truck-cleaning agents.

Dura-Bright is a treatment that penetrates the aluminum and becomes an integral part of the wheel, ensuring what happens on the road stays on the road.

“Our shined wheels were so bright you need to have shades on to look at them,” Marquez said.
