WORKHORSE ADDS 16,000-LB CHASSIS

Workhorse Custom Chassis has introduced a 16,000-lb GVWR version of its new W42 chassis. The platform is now available with either a diesel or gas engine for companies using walk-in trucks in the package delivery, laundry, utility, mobile tool sales and newspaper industries. The previous weight range was 9400 to 14,500 lb.

The company, ISO 9001 certified, is a wholly owned subsidiary of International Truck and Engine Corp.

The diesel platform is powered by the International VT 275 V6 engine coupled to an Allison LCT-1000 electronic 5-speed transmission, while the gas version boasts the 6.0L GM Vortec 6000 coupled to GM’s 4L80-E Hydromatic electronic transmission with overdrive. The chassis has wheelbases of 125, 133, 157, 178 and 190 in. Very little weight has been
added to the new chassis, the company says.

The new International diesel engine delivers 200 hp and 440 lb ft of torque, with twin turbos — a small one for low-speed responsiveness and a second for power at higher rpm. The engine has a 250,000-mile lifecycle design.

The GM gas engine provides 300 hp and 355 lb ft of torque.

Other upgraded features include high-performance four-wheel Brembo disc brakes, a new Westport wide-track I-beam front axle with 50-degree wheel cut, new Meritor WABCO four-channel ABS, and a new ZF variable-ratio power steering box. Call 877-294-6773.
