CALGARY, Alta. — Still confused about the new cargo securement rules being implemented in the U.S. and Canada? The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is offering training sessions through its Calgary and Edmonton offices.

The training program describes the requirements of the North American Cargo Securement Standard and explains how the new rules apply to different commodities. Those commodities include: logs; lumber; metal coils; paper rolls; concrete/pipe; intermodal containers; heavy equipment; vehicles; crushed vehicles; boulders; and roll-on/roll-off and hook-lift containers.

The one-day training course costs $150 for members or $200 for non-members. The fee includes a manual, with other resources such as a driver’s handbook available for purchase. The Edmonton courses will be offered May 18, June 21, Oct. 17 and Nov. 15. In Calgary, the course will be offered May 12, June 28 and Oct. 4.

Visit www.amta.ca for more information or call 780-448-7456 in Edmonton or 403-243-4161 in Calgary.
