VICTORIA, B.C. — The B.C. government has released a discussion paper on public-private partnerships and how they can be used to better the province’s transportation system.

The paper has been published online, along with the Transportation Investment Act, a new legislation introduced to pave the way for public-private partnerships, or P3s.

The government is seeking private investment to help grow its infrastructure system, claiming traditional methods of finding funding aren’t enough to meet the province’s transportation needs. The discussion paper explores the need for better infrastructure, how P3s can help address that concern and how specific P3s could be adopted to fund specific projects.

The report is available online at http://www.th.gov.bc.ca/BCHighways/partnerships/Alternative_Delivery.htm.

The Ministry of Transportation is also seeking comments from the public about its proposal. Comments will be accepted up until Sept. 12.
