COUTTS, Alta. — Alberta’s busiest border crossing was closed last night and most of the town evacuated following a bomb threat.

The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. when an woman and her son tried to enter Canada from the U.S. After being questioned by Canada Customs officers, a note was found in the area indicating a bomb may be in the immediate area.

Customs didn’t take any chances, evacuating nearby residents and shutting down the border crossing while bomb technicians were en route from Lethbridge to investigate.

Charges are pending against the woman and her grown son.
