WASHINGTON, D.C. — Delphi Corporation has unveiled a new technology suite aimed at providing carriers with the opportunity to safeguard their fleet against terrorism.

TruckSecure is a new program able to identify and authorize drivers, track vehicles and offers fleet managers with the ability to shut down a vehicle that enters a prohibited area.

The new produce was unveiled at the Homeland Security Technology Expo and Conference.

"The threat of terrorists using a truck transporting hazardous material as a weapon is all too real," says David Wohleen, Delphi’s electronics and mobile communications sector president. "TruckSecure adds security for the transportation of dangerous materials, as well as for sensitive locations, such as airports, power plants and other specific buildings and installations."

He adds the program is tamper-proof with the truck shutting down automatically if the system is damaged.

"We have responded to President Bush’s all for public-private partnerships to address homeland security with technologies that can track truck locations, establish GPS-based electronic fencing of route corridors and integrate emergency dispatch," says Wohleen.

Some of the other features of TruckSecure include: password-protected access to trucks; GPS satellite and cellular technology used to monitor truck location; special software creating boundaries around certain locations; a shut-down feature that safely and slowly decelerates the truck in the event of a violation.
