FORT ERIE, Ont. — The Free and Secure Trade (FAST) program goes into effect at all three high-traffic Ontario-U.S. border crossings today.

Drivers for low-risk companies that have qualified for the FAST program can, as of today, use FAST cards at the Fort Erie-Buffalo bridge; the Bluewater Bridge between Sarnia and Port Huron, and the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor.

FAST will be available at three other border points as of Dec. 31. They are: Douglas B.C./Blaine, Wash.; the Lacolle, Que.-Champlain, N.Y. crossing; and the Queenston-Lewiston bridge.

These introductions of FAST are part of the 30 Point Smart Border Action Plan. Canada and the U.S. are working to align other customs processes for all commercial shipments by 2005.
