YELLOWKNIFE, N.W.T. — The Sept. 11 terrorist attacks against the U.S. aren’t just causing concern for border provinces, according to the Northwest Territories Transportation Minister, Vince Steen.

Steen, who met with other provincial transportation ministers in Halifax last week, says, “As northerners, we are concerned with the economic impacts of additional security measures.”

Other transportation and highway safety issues were also discussed at the meeting, as was the use of road salt for highway maintenance and National Safety Code changes for carriers.

Steen says the ministers will meet again in the new year to further discuss Canada’s future transportation blueprint.
