TORONTO, Ont. — Markel Insurance president and CEO and monthly Truck News columnist, Mark Ram, has been named one of the top 40 global insurance industry executives under the age of 40.

The list was compiled by Business Insurance magazine. Ram was the only Canadian-based executive to make this year’s list and it is the second time he has received a “Top 40 Under 40” award. He was also a recipient of the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business magazine’s Canadian Top 40 Under 40 award 18 months ago and at the time was the only person in the property and casualty insurance industry to win that award since its inception.

“Our criteria were simple,” writes Regis Coccia, editor of Business Insurance of the latest award. “Anyone working in the commercial insurance industry doing an outstanding job of serving the buyers of risk and benefits management services was eligible for consideration. Among these executives are innovators, entrepreneurs, specialists and client advocates.”

“No company becomes a stand-out industry leader without the drive, dedication and perseverance of everyone on the team,” Ram responded. “It’s not me who has made Markel great. It’s each of our staff who has.”
