HAMILTON, Ont. — Work on a new expressway through Canada’s Steel City just took a huge step towards becoming a reality.

The federal government is giving up its legal fight to impose an environmental assessment on the proposed highway through the Red Hill Valley.

That removes the last serious obstacle to building the $143-million Red Hill Creek Expressway through the only remaining large open space in east Hamilton.
