Suspension bridges could be next terrorist target

SAN FRANCISCO, Cal. — Security is being stepped up at a number of large suspension bridges – especially in the West – following a "credible threat" they could be the next terrorist targets.

"We believe there is a credible threat that there will be an effort made between Nov. 2 and Nov. 7 to destroy one of those bridges," Gov. Gray Davis announced yesterday.

The National Guard is sending U.S. troops to protect the bridges, most notably the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Specific details about the threat were not released, however anyone hauling hazardous materials in the vicinity of any of these bridges can prepare to be scrutinized if arising suspicion.
