Edible Arrangements wins Thermo King environmental award

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Thermo King has presented its first ever Energy Efficiency Leader Award to Edible Arrangements for developing a creative way to refrigerate its fresh fruit arrangements during delivery.

The company is using customized vans with all-electric cooling via shore power sources rather fuel to keep its goods chilled. It anticipates diesel savings of about 27% over traditional vans with reefers.

The driver can pre-cool a van by plugging into a nearby outlet. When leaving for a delivery, the driver unplugs the van and its batteries then take over to provide the necessary cooling.

“We can contribute the most to sustainability as a company by improving the efficiency of our delivery vans,” said Kamran Farid, CEO of Edible Arrangements. “We’re pleased to have identified an environmentally responsible solution that meets our commitment to product quality while also saving fuel and reducing emissions.”

Chris Casazza, president of Thermo King, presented the award to Farid during a ceremony Sept. 24.
