A new hybrid drivetrain retrofit is being brought to market by ReVolt Motors, which will show its first truck at the upcoming Mid-America Trucking Show.

It claims about 40% fuel savings with its series hybrid design, which will be displayed in a Peterbilt Model 379. ReVolt claims to be the only U.S.-based company offering fleets and owner-operators a hybrid drivetrain that doesn’t compromise performance, yet slashes emissions.

“Drivers should not have to choose between losing their longtime routes because of changing regulatory environments or losing the truck in which they have already made significant investments,” said Gus Gardner, ReVolt Motors founder and CEO. “American truckers want their trucks to reflect their identity, and our retrofit technology allows them to continue driving the trucks they love while still making a living.”

Drivers can flip a switch to change from diesel operation on-highway to electric mode in the city or in areas with zero-emission mandates. The truck puts out 3,500 lb.-ft. and 670 hp.

ReVolt says the truck can achieve at least 12 mpg in targeted applications and generate about 40% in fuel savings. Its GVWR is 13,000 lb., and batteries are charged through regenerative braking and a range extender, eliminating the need for long charge times.

The truck will be displayed at the Mid-America show March 27-29 in Louisville, Ky.
