This is the second straight weekly increase since hitting its lowest level in several years the first week of the month.
Diesel Costs Turn Higher for First Time in Weeks
LONDON, ON and WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The average price for trucking's main fuel has posted weekly increases in both Canada and the U.S. for the first time since early this summer. In Canada diesel gained $0.002 from last week for a national average of $1.033 per liter, according to the petroleum information services provider The Kent Group. This follows 10 consecutive weeks where the price either fell or was unchanged, in which it declined a total of $0.093 per liter. Despite this week's gain, diesel is $0.264 per liter less than this time last year and remains at its lowest level in several years. South of the border, the U.S. Energy Department reported the first week-over-week increase for diesel in 14 weeks, with the average retail price picking up US$0.02 from last week, hitting US$2.534 per gallon. From late May through the end of August the average U.S. diesel price decreased by US$0.40, registering US$2.514, its lowest price since July 2009.
Average Diesel Cost Unchanged, Still Lowest in Years

Compared to this week a year ago the price $0.242 less. Not surprisingly, prices varied little if any in the different regions of Canada from last week with the Atlantic provinces this week recording an average of $1.025 per liter, Quebec at $1.097, Ontario at $1.026 and the Western Provinces at $1.065.

Trucking's main fuel fell $0.011 from a week ago to $1.05 per liter, the eighth consecutive weekly drop and the lowest price since November 2010, according to the petroleum information services provider The Kent Group. Compared to this week in 2014 the price $0.247 less per liter.

LONDON, ON and WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Fuel prices continue falling, returning to levels seen earlier in the year while also hitting their lowest price in several years south of the border, according to figures released this week. The petroleum information services provider The Kent Group reports average Canadian cost of diesel shed another $0.006 this week, hitting $1.086 per liter. This marks its sixth consecutive weekly drop and is at its lowest level since early February. Compared to this week a year ago the average cost of diesel is down $0.212. Prices are varied across the country, averaging $1.14 per liter in the Atlantic Provinces, $1.226 in Quebec, $1.166 in Ontario and $1.16 in the Western Provinces. This happened as national average cost of regular grade gasoline fell $0.008 over the past week to $1.176 per liter, the third straight weekly decline and its lowest price since last May.

Compared to the same time a year ago the average cost of trucking's main fuel is down $0.204 per liter. Meantime, in the U.S. there has been a more dramatic drop in fuel prices, with diesel hitting its lowest level in nearly six years, according to the country's Energy Department.
