Average Canadian Diesel Cost Lowest Since February

LONDON, ON and WASHINGTON, D.C. — The average Canadian cost of diesel has moved lower for the fourth straight week, according to new figures released from the petroleum information services provider The Kent Group.

It has fallen $0.008 this week from last week to $1.101 per liter, hitting its lowest level since early February.

During this most recent string of declines it has shed $0.023.

Compared to this same time a year ago the average price of diesel is $0.207 less.

Regionally, prices this week are averaging $1.075 in the Atlantic Provinces, $1.135 in Quebec, $1.088 in Ontario and $1.103 in the Western Provinces.

Meantime, the average cost of regualar grade gasoline is down $0.013 over the past week to $1.222 per liter after it bumped slightly higher last week and is just over a penny less than the highest price so far this year, hit in mid-June.

Compared to the same time in 2014 the current price is $0.108 less.

In the U.S., the Department of Energy this week reported the average cost of on-highway diesel fell for the eighth consecutive week to US$2.782 per gallon.

This latest weekly decline totaled US$0.032 while it has given up US$0.132 cents during this most recent series of uninterrupted drops, the longest so far this year.

Compared to a year ago the average cost of diesel in the country is US$1.087 less per gallon.

As for regular gasoline, it fell US$0.032 over the past week to US$2.802 per gallon, which is US$0.791 less than the same time last year.
