407 ETR’s new lanes mean faster trips

TORONTO, Ont. — Expect faster trips with no congestion as 407 ETR today officially opened new lanes worth $6 million between Hwy. 400 and Hwy. 427.

“407 ETR is responding to customers’ needs, by improving service both on and off the highway,” said Jos Lopez, president and CEO of 407 ETR. “Not only will the additional lane increase safety and traffic flow, but it benefits the region’s economy.”

During peak hours, an influx of traffic entering and exiting 407 ETR from Highways 400 and 427 sometimes caused congestion. The three-kilometres of new lanes will relieve congestion by 30 per cent and increase safety on this section of the highway.

“This is the biggest expansion project since the highway was completed in 2001,” added Lopez. “We appreciate our customers’ patronage and patience during this construction period, and hope we have exceeded their expectations. With more lanes and a faster trip, our customers are seeing the direct benefits of their tolls.”
