Accuride’s new lightweight steel wheel weighs just 65 lb, achieved by way of high-strength, low-alloy steel and engineering design. The company says it combines the economy and strength of a standard steel wheel with weight similar to aluminum. The standard powder topcoat (white, gray, black or custom) improves its appearance and enhances corrosion protection. By replacing a typical competing steel wheel weighing 82 lb, the new wheel would reduce overall standard tractor-trailer weight by 306 lb. The new wheel has a 10-hand-hole design, so it can replace an aluminum wheel as an inner dual, with no appearance change and at a significant cost savings. The 22.5×8.25-in. HSLA Light Weight Steel Wheel is available for standard hub-mount applications with a maximum load rating of 7400 lb.
