Aging bridge in Kelowna to be replaced

KELOWNA, B.C. — The province of B.C. is seeking a private partner to build a new bridge across Okanagan Lake at Kelowna.

The new span, to be opened in 2008, will replace the 45-year-old existing floating bridge which is currently the most congested stretch of highway outside the Lower Mainland.

It will cost about $100 million to build the five-lane bridge, but the province is seeking a private partner to design, build, finance and operate the bridge all without user tolls.
