Alberta Carrier Fined $85K for Oversized Load

FORT MCMURRAY, AB – A company that transports oilfield equipment in Western Canada has been fined over $85,000 for hauling an overweight load on Highway 63.

Commercial vehicle enforcement officers got a complaint from a driver of an overloaded vehicle travelling north on Highway 63, according to the Alberta Police Report. The vehicle was transporting a large rock truck from Red Deer to Fort McMurray.

Enforcement officers stopped the load near the Hanging Stone Bridge and upon inspection, found the truck to be “severely overloaded.”

On May 2, Oilsands Expediting Ltd. went to the provincial court and pleaded guilty to operating an oversized, unsafe and overweight vehicle on a highway and failing to comply with directions given by a peace officer. The company has been fined $85,440.
