EDMONTON, Alta. — The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) will be an exhibitor and presenting sponsor at the third annual Health and Safety Conference and Trade Fair this fall in Edmonton.
The conference is slated for Nov. 8-10 at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton. In addition to having an exhibit at the trade fair, the AMTA is hosting two speakers at the conference, Dennis Bell of Alberta Transportation and Jan Chandler of Chandler Consulting.
Bell is the director of vehicle safety for the Province of Alberta and he will be talking about existing cargo securement standards and how they compare to new standards being introduced in January, 2005. He will also discuss changes that can be expected as a result of the new standards and will host a Q&A on cargo securement training.
Meanwhile, Chandler, an internationally certified alcohol and drug counsellor will be covering topics related to drug and alcohol abuse. She will cover: What rights an employer has to terminate an employee if they suspect substance abuse; how an employer can create a comprehensive drug and alcohol policy; training required by supervisors regarding substance abuse; and how many chances an employer must give an employee to correct their behaviour.
