Alberta RCMP looking for trucker to close case

VALLEYVIEW, Alta. — The Valleyview RCMP are looking for help trying to find a trucker who may have been part of a collision back in November 2009.

The trucker did briefly stop at the scene of the accident near Valleyview, Alta. – a small community a little more than four hours northwest of Edmonton – but left shortly after. Now the local RCMP are trying to locate the trucker to help close the file.

On Nov. 21, 2009 at about 8:30 p.m., the Valleyview RCMP, Valleyview Fire Department and Peace Region EMS were dispatched to a fatal collision on Highway 43. The accident involved an 18-year-old female pedestrian about 15 kilometres west of Valleyview.

Police investigation involved Collision Analyst from Peace River, Forensic Identification Unit in Grande Prairie and local Valleyview resources.

The investigation at this point indicated the pedestrian was walking within the westbound lane of travel near the center of the highway when she was struck by a westbound pick-up truck, and then struck by an eastbound tractor-trailer unit.

The pedestrian has been identified but her name is not being released out of consideration for the family, and the RCMP say no charges are anticipated at this time.

The Valleyview RCMP are asking the driver of the passing semi, or anyone with information regarding this investigation, to contact their local police or RCMP detachment. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
