Alberta’s Road Knights Focus on Young and Job Hungry

EDMONTON — The deadline to nominate a driver for the Alberta Motor Transport Association’s (AMTA) Road Knight program is coming up fast, the association said yesterday.

The current brigade of Knights will be ending their tour in the new year, and nominations for a new team need to be in by December 31.

The AMTA Road Knights have a specific battle to fight, too: educating young people and career seekers on the trucking industry. Knights will spend a lot of their time visiting high schools, not only talking about driving, but other trucking careers in trucking, like mechanics, logistics, and dispatch.

You can visit the AMTA’s website to learn more, but in the meantime, here are Six Reasons why you Should Nominate a Driver for the Road Knights program, courtesy of the AMTA:

  1. Provides a way to promote careers in the trucking industry.

  2. Helps improve highway safety and the image of the trucking industry.

  3. Increases the industry’s effectiveness in communicating positive messages.

  4. Gives the public a better understanding of road sharing from the drivers’ perspective.

  5. Shines a spotlight on some of the best drivers and fleets.

  6. Provides fleets with a mechanism to reward and support drivers’ professional development goals.
